Please join us for the opening on Thursday, 27 February
from 6 to 8 p.m.
The inception of this body of work can be accredited to Sandra’s residency in Banff; one of the few places where the wild has no edges. It’s the type of wilderness that turns and breaks and twists and aches through a raw mess of leaves and weeds and brush and seeds. This dance of repetitive gesture greatly influenced the playful and provocative portraits of these Beings. Much like Sandra’s felt painterliness, you can trace the moves of their becoming, one thoughtful step after another, over and under, side to side. The pleasure of this act of reciprocation led to their beautifully melancholic eyes that now glare in the direction of their kin.
14 mouths yammer on. Now with necks. And knowledge. And independence. Speak with them – maybe they will tell you about the first time their eyes opened: pale light ran sharp spears through the trees, snow dusted Elk trod on through a maze of mess.
